When John H. joined Bellwether as an IT Support Specialist I, he didn’t imagine how quickly his career would progress. In just a few years, he’s advanced through several roles—IT Support Specialist II, Service Desk Team Lead, Service Desk Supervisor, and now he’s an Automation Engineer. His growth is due to both his drive to learn and Bellwether’s commitment to supporting employees’ professional development.
“I started learning PowerShell between tickets,” John said. “I went from writing simple one line code to 300-line scripts in a matter of months.”
John’s interest in automation was met with encouragement from his managers. As he shared his work and new-found passion for scripting, Bellwether recognized his potential and split their existing automation role into two positions with John taking on responsibilities focused on internal processes.
“John’s career growth is a testament to his dedication and adaptability,” said Zasha, John’s supervisor. “Each promotion reflected his ability to master new challenges and lead by example. Today, he’s excelling as an Automation Engineer, diving into his passion for scripting and automation while continually expanding his expertise. He’s a true example of what’s possible with hard work and focus.”
Variety and Continuous Learning Every Day
As an Automation Engineer, John develops scripts that connect systems, streamline workflows, and improve efficiency for Bellwether internal processes.
What John likes best about his job is the chance to learn and apply his new skills to solve problems. A typical day usually involves several hours’ work on a long-term project, but he’s ready to pivot if an urgent issue arises, like a script error that needs to be repaired.
On quieter days, John refines existing scripts, explores new programming languages like Python, or shares his expertise with team members interested in learning scripting basics. Because of the variety of activities and challenges that each day brings, his work never feels repetitive.
A Culture That Supports Growth
While John values the technical skills he’s developed, he credits Bellwether’s collaborative and supportive environment for much of his success. From access to training tools and certifications to daily collaboration with colleagues, John has always felt encouraged to grow.
“I get daily assistance or input from others so I never feel like I’m alone here,” John said. “Everyone pitches in to help. It’s a very supportive environment.”
Mentorship has also been a key part of John’s journey. A colleague who previously handled all automation at Bellwether guided him as he transitioned into his role. Now the two collaborate regularly when they need a second set of eyes to review a script or share suggestions for improvement.
A Workplace Where Skills and Contributions Matter
For John, the combination of meaningful work and a supportive environment set Bellwether apart from his past employers. Whether he’s collaborating with colleagues in the office or taking advantage of the flexibility to work from home, he knows he has the tools and support to succeed. Open communication with his manager and team ensures that his input is always considered and appreciated, reinforcing the value of his contributions.
John’s story is an example of what’s possible at Bellwether: a workplace where your contributions truly matter, your input is valued, and your skills and interests can align with meaningful opportunities for growth. If you’re looking for a supportive and collaborative environment where you can advance your career, Bellwether has a place for you.
